چکیده

Rapid Prototyping (RP) Technology is to produce the objects directly from 3D CAD model to shorten the product development cycle for many applications like Aerospace, Automobile, home appliances and others. By integrating Reverse Engineering (RE) with Rapid Prototyping (RP) for the parts that have lost the design draft to produce the part or to make a dimensional variations of the existing part can be build in a short lead time, to produce the prototype for form, fit and functional testing to producing final end products for functional use. Reverse Engineering is employed to eliminate solid modeling time of complex shape objects. The integration of the above techniques reduces the lead time for developing a complex part or object from weeks to days. RE consists of three major phases (i) Digitizing (ii) Reconstructing (iii) Product Development. The modeling software exports models to STL file format, which are used as input to SLA and SLS system to build the part by adding material, successively, in layers to create a solid of redefined shape.
